Abacus Nursery and Childcare is a term-time setting in New Romney for children aged two to four. It is open from Monday to Friday between 7.45am and 6pm and accepts government funding. Following an inspection in September 2025, Ofsted rated the day nursery's overall effectiveness as Outstanding.
The inspector found that leaders and staff provide an inspirational environment and an exceptionally ambitious curriculum based on children’s interests. Staff support communication with visual cues and signing. In the garden, children engage in imaginative play using areas such as the mud kitchen and obstacle course. The report states that all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities, make steady and sustained progress. It also notes that parent partnership is exceptional, with staff building incredible relationships with parents.

How they support every child
SEND provision
All children make steady and sustained progress, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and those who speak English as an additional language. Any additional funding is used by leaders to provide optimum levels of teaching, such as through adaptations to the environment and specific training for staff.
Outdoor space
Children demonstrate a deep love of the outdoors, when they explore the exciting and inspirational garden. Staff plan well-resourced and highly creative areas where children develop their imagination, such as when they pretend to be builders, or make 'mint smoothies' in the mud kitchen. They develop their core strength and muscles, when they dig in the sand, draw with chalk at the easels and balance along the obstacle course.

I can’t rate Abacus Nursery enough, from the first day our daughter started she was happy to stay with the wonderful staff, they are all so friendly and hard working. Lisa the manager is always helpful & answers our many questions!! They all do an amazing job & wouldn’t send our daughter anywhere else.

Being a 1st time mum the thought of my boy going to nursery was my biggest fear until i come across Abacus Nursery then all my fears was lifted. I couldn't of found a better nursery for my son to go too. The girls are all so lovely and welcoming and very supportive. My son now can't wait to get into his classroom. I would highly recommend this nursery, my son is happy and so am I. Thank you girls for making us both feel welcome. I couldn't of made a better decision. 🙂
