Seashells Nursery, located in New Romney, Kent, is a full-day care setting that registered in 2018 and operates all year round, closing only for bank holidays. The nursery caters to children from birth to age four and prides itself on providing a stimulating and well-resourced environment where children settle quickly and engage in activities.
With a dedicated team of 13 staff members, all holding early years qualifications from level 2 to level 6, and led by a manager with a level 4 qualification, children receive a high standard of care and education. The staff are adept at creating a safe and welcoming atmosphere, allowing parents time to discuss their child's needs and fostering strong bonds between children and staff.
The nursery has successfully adapted its routines to maximise socialisation opportunities for children, especially in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, ensuring all children, including those with additional needs, benefit from a well-sequenced curriculum and effective use of additional funding. They also provide a rich variety of activities to support children's physical development, such as hammering nails into wooden logs and exploring different textures, and promote independence in daily tasks like pouring drinks and choosing play activities.
The nursery also effectively supports children's communication skills through singing and enthusiastic reading of stories.
What it's like
Children instantly settle and engage in activities when they arrive in the well-resourced and stimulating nursery. The well-qualified and dedicated staff welcome children and their parents safely, giving every parent time to discuss their child's needs for the day. Children excitedly greet one another and are soon busy, happily enjoying time together. Staff recognise that, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, some children have not socialised widely with others. They have changed the routine and organisation to maximise the time children can play together and across the different age ranges.

Inclusion & environment
Teaching is sequenced well for all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities.
Outdoor activities lack the same level of planning and challenge as those on offer indoors. Consequently, children are less engaged in physical activities outside and are not able to take risks in their play.
