About this day nursery

Active Kid's Nursery is located in Hove and provides care for children from birth to four years old. It operates all year round, from Monday to Friday, between 7.30am and 6.30pm. The setting was inspected by Ofsted in April 2025 and received an overall judgement of 'Good'.

The inspector found that staff have high expectations for children, who make good progress. Children are supported to become independent learners, engaging in learning and managing tasks for themselves. Staff track children's progress to identify any developmental delays and work with parents to provide support, using strategies such as visual prompts and sign language. The inspector also noted that leaders have made significant improvements, providing staff with effective coaching and mentoring.

Our ethos

Our philosophy of “learning through play” nurtures each child’s unique talents. We believe that a stimulating environment will help to develop active minds and healthy bodies to prepare all our children for the future. We are inspired by the Montessori and Waldorf approaches used to prepare children for learning in a social environment, providing a “soft landing” when they start school by encouraging them to learn from their surroundings.

What it's like

Staff have high expectations for all children to succeed and as such, children make good progress. They plan well for children's development and support children to become independent learners, managing tasks for themselves and engaging in learning opportunities. Staff also implement effective methods to support children's behaviour, reminding older children of rules, using visual prompts, and a tambourine to get their attention.

We absolutely love active kids nursery, the staff are caring, kind and so supportive. I have 2 children who attend here and they always happily walk through the door without a look back at me on drop offs. Activities for the children are based around Activities that the children enjoy and my sons have learnt so much from them. We've also had amazing support with getting Sen assessment and support. We've been to a few nurseries south east and I just love this nursery the staff are brilliant. Thank you active kids for all your care and support with the children and the family

My twins have been at active kids since they were 9 months old. They have learnt so much and have had many happy times there and met some wonderful friends. The staff are warm and caring. They plan exciting and creative activities for the children. The menu is exceptional and the boys have tried a variety of food since being there.

I feel so grateful we found Active Kids for my son to attend. When my 3 year old’s nursery shut down there were so many local choices but I was still worried we wouldn’t find somewhere that would suit our needs. Active Kids has such caring, enthusiastic and skilled staff. They have a wonderful ethos where every child can learn, play and thrive. If you are looking for a nursery I would highly recommend Active Kids.
