About this day nursery

Woodpeckers Nursery, situated within Hangleton Primary School, provides a welcoming and enriching environment for children from 2 years of age. The day nursery operates a 'term-time plus extras' model where all activities are included, and funded places genuinely mean no cost to parents.

The day nursery's philosophy centres on equality and celebrating diversity, with a strong commitment to inclusivity for all children and families, regardless of educational needs, disabilities, race, culture, religion, or background. Through a variety of creative experiences, Woodpeckers aims to foster children's social skills, self-expression, and overall development, preparing them for the challenges of school while promoting self-respect and respect for others.

The dedicated team of educators, many with expertise in Special Educational Needs and Disabilities, languages, and various arts, ensures a high-quality educational programme. Parents are actively encouraged to participate in their child's learning journey and the nursery community.

Our ethos

Everyone is equal, diversity is celebrated, and all are welcomed with a big smile. As someone who struggled to 'fit in' as a child and became a parent of a child with learning difficulties, I have learnt first hand how tough it can be to feel separate from your peers. This division can sometimes be due to educational needs and disabilities, race, culture, religion or backgrounds and can often appear through lack of knowledge, understanding or awareness. This is why it is so important to me that our nurseries embrace and support all children and their families, working together to ensure our play spaces are inclusive, and provide amazing learning opportunities and positive outcomes for all. Helping to change the world, one preschooler at a time. After all, none of us are the same, but all are equal and special in our own right.

Hello everyone, my daughter is studying at the Woodpeckers Nursery . All the staff here are very friendly, especially the manager Morakot, she is very excellent and gives us great help. Their team treats every child very gently. My daughter will be promoted to reception in 2025. During this transition period, they are also very patient in helping her with toilet training, book reading... etc. This is really a very good team. I highly recommend this nursery to everyone.

Our son has had a great time at Woodpeckers. They have a lot of space indoors and outdoors, as it's attached to the school and used to be the infant area. It's also particularly good if you want your child to go to the attached primary school, so that they'll already know a good amount of kids and the area in general. Absolutely no regrets! They also send regular photos and updates, so you know what's going on.

Our son has really enjoyed his year at Woodpeckers, Thomas has grown so much over the year and has become so much more confident. The staff have been brilliant at encouraging and teaching him and he is very fond of them all. He always looks forward to school days and enjoys the singing, stories and especially playing outside. We chose woodpeckers because of the outside space and our son has particularly enjoyed playing in the 'big playground'. Thomas will miss school over the summer holidays and I know will be excited to go back in September.
