About this day nursery

Anderton Day Nursery, established over 34 years ago in a building dating back to 1857, offers a nurturing and stimulating environment for children from birth to 11 years old. Located in St. Joseph’s Old School, next to St. Joseph’s Church and surrounded by woodland, the nursery provides a serene setting with private off-road parking and disabled access.

The nursery operates 50 weeks a year, Monday to Friday, from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. It is managed by Jenny Almond and Tracey Gilbertson, who have over two decades of experience combined and are dedicated to maintaining a warm, loving atmosphere for all children.

The nursery’s mission focuses on fostering independence, confidence, and respect in children, while also building strong relationships with parents and the wider community. They regularly review their services to ensure they meet the evolving needs of families.

The nursery includes dedicated rooms for babies (0-2 years), tiddlers (2-year-olds), middles (2-3 years), and preschool, as well as an out-of-school club providing wrap-around care for local schools, emphasising creative play with recycled materials and risky outdoor activities.

How they support every child

SEND provision

Leaders and staff have high ambitions for all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Staff are passionate about providing each child with the support, resources and time they need to make good progress. As a result, all children make good progress from their starting points.

Outdoor space

Children spend plenty of time learning outdoors, where they create flower potions, set up ambitious car ramps and enjoy the physical challenge of climbing frames. Staff ensure children are safe and remind children of the rules.

My son has been here for 12 months (2-3yo) and absolutely loved every day. The teachers and staff are brilliant and take the best care of the children, they are so caring are very trustworthy. I was unsure weather to send him to nursery or not but I'm so glad that I did as he's had the best time and has learnt so much over the year he's been here.

My daughter attended this nursery and now attends their breakfast club and after school, since we first moved to the area when she was two years old. Of all the local nurseries in the area and compared to the nursery my daughter previously attended, Anderton Day nursery by far out-weighted them all. It was the wonderfully warm and inviting atmosphere you tangibly felt when you walked through the door. The friendly staff who immediately put both us and our daughter at ease, from our first visit, and the amount of space both indoors and outdoors which ultimately clinched our decision. As the years have gone by, another priceless benefit (in my opinion) is their flexibility, to provide support for those unexpected circumstances, and in five years we have never been turned away. I recommend it to anyone.
