Ashfield Nursery and ELC, a family-operated establishment in South Shields, has been dedicated to providing high-quality childcare since 2002. Founded by Karen and Brian Powell, the nursery aimed to offer exceptional care and education, quickly expanding to two locations to meet community demand, including one at South Tyneside District Hospital.
The nursery champions a child-centred approach, ensuring that lessons and activities are tailored to the individual interests and developmental stages of each child. They cultivate a nurturing, secure, and stimulating environment to facilitate children's growth and learning from six weeks to five years of age.
Recognising the vital role parents play, Ashfield Nursery actively encourages their involvement in their child’s learning journey. The facility also boasts unique amenities like expansive indoor and outdoor spaces, including a garden with climbing frames, slides, and a vegetable patch, promoting independent play and teaching children about nature and responsibility.
The nursery staff are all DBS checked, safeguard trained, and hold up-to-date first aid certificates.

Staff provide good support for children who speak English as an additional language and for those who need additional support, using repetition of key words and sign language to aid early language development.
Children enjoy being outdoors; pre-school children become fascinated with creatures in the garden and consider how to keep them safe. Children have regular opportunities to run about in the fresh air to develop their large muscles.
