About this day nursery

Brambles Outdoor Nursery Group is an Ofsted-registered, multi-award-winning nursery group operating across five locations in the picturesque Wiltshire countryside. Drawing inspiration from the Forest School philosophy and Hygge principles, Brambles champions a nature-based approach to learning, encouraging children to explore and develop confidence and independence within an outdoor environment.

The nursery group is dedicated to fostering wellness, with a team of practitioners who guide children in understanding and regulating their emotions through patience, empathy, and kindness. This approach aims to equip children with resilience, preparing them to confidently navigate life's challenges.

The nursery caters to children from 9 months old, offering a rich environment where they can thrive through imaginative play and exploration in natural settings. At Brambles Cholderton, for example, the setting features a pond teeming with wildlife, diverse trees providing shelter and study opportunities, and areas designed for creative play, reading, construction, and vegetable gardening, all designed to provoke curiosity and encourage child-led discovery.

The Cholderton setting is largely off-grid, utilising collected water for daily activities and solar energy for facilities, further emphasising its environmentally conscious ethos.

Managers use additional funding particularly well to target specific areas and maximise children's learning. The special educational needs coordinator spoke to the inspector about how they support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities.

Sending our son to Brambles has been one of the best decisions we’ve made for him. We moved out of London partly so he could experience an outdoor/forest school nursery environment for his early years. Brambles is hugely popular and we were lucky to get a space for him at the time! We were able to settle him in during his initial weeks and could see how much he enjoyed the environment. The staff are just wonderful, we get detailed updates regarding his day, whether it’s what he ate (including quantity!), nap times and the type of play he has been partaking in. The setting also holds events throughout the year where you can attend in the evenings and catch up with the staff inside the setting in an informal way and they even host a mini festival twice a year! We couldn’t fault Brambles at all, they have been very accommodating where we have asked for additional childcare and our son just loves it there. The outdoor environment and setting really is a place where the children thrive.

Brambles has been a huge success for our daughter! She has made some wonderful friends and formed close bonds with her teachers, all of whom are kind, patient, and clearly love the children in their care. She comes home from Brambles days filthy from outdoor play (prepare to send lots of spare clothes, especially in winter!) and full of stories about what she did and learned. The children eat a healthy, varied lunch and she always gets a good nap in too. We started nursery with the expectation that some days she might be reluctant to separate from us, but from day 1 she was in like a shot - we're lucky if we get a goodbye kiss and wave before she is off to play. Highly recommend!

My son goes to Brambles full time and has flourished immensely in the last 2 years. They have helped him with his speech/learning and ability to be creative, and form friendships. He absolutely loves the outdoors no matter the weather, so Brambles has been the most amazing place for him to spend every day. He is currently on route to his autism diagnosis and Brambles have been so supportive towards him, understanding his needs with their knowledge and guidance. They've completed all the relevant paperwork and contacting the right services for it so it has been stress free as a mum.

We sent our son to one of the Brambles locations, and after a rough experience at a Montessori school in Canada during covid which left my 3 year old with Horrid anxiety, Brambles was the sunshine we were looking for!!! Our son was used to us as his care givers for his whole life, so we knew it was going to be tough to convince him that Brambles was another safe space he could hang out in. They worked with us, and accommodated all of our needs and our sons needs to build trust and friendship, which resulted in our son LOVING his days at Brambles. We were able to stay with him in the environment at the start to make sure he felt comfortable and safe, but after 2 fun visits, he was very happy to be left there and we have managed zero tears this whole time. We love the daily updates through the app and everyone has been very responsive in the chat we have. If you're looking for a super cool and accommodating outdoor nursery then I'd highly recommend it!!!
