About this day nursery

Bright Horizons operates over 300 nurseries and preschools across the UK, offering comprehensive childcare designed to support both children's development and families' work-life balance. Their core philosophy, the Nurture Approach™, integrates learning with emotional well-being, fostering a supportive environment where children feel secure and encouraged to explore.

They provide freshly prepared meals, cater to various dietary needs, and offer extensive outdoor learning opportunities, including Forest School programmes. Understanding the financial pressures on families, Bright Horizons assists with navigating government childcare funding options such as tax-free childcare and funded hours.

They prioritise a smooth transition for new children and families through non-chargeable 'settling-in' sessions, which can begin up to six weeks before the official start date. These sessions allow children to gradually adapt to their new surroundings and form a crucial 'triangle of trust' with their key person and parents, ensuring a personalised and comforting start to their nursery experience.

We have our son at this Bright Horizons for nearly two years now. It has been a wonderful experience, the staff are very caring and make a huge effort with the children. He loves going to school, eats really well and comes back with lots of fun stories and songs!

I don’t have children that attend this nursery but I live in a building overlooking their play area. The children play outside most of the day in summer and I have no issue listening to them talk/sing/chat all day long while I work from home. I also accept there will be a fair amount of crying as they are small toddlers. However, there are hours each day where the children scream and scream to the point where I can’t have the windows open and even when closed it’s still audible. The staff don’t seem to make any efforts to tell the children to stop or consider taking them inside when they have been screaming for significant periods of time. I understand kids scream when playing games, but this is screaming tantrums or just screaming at eachother for extended periods of time. I enjoy listening to the kids play outside for the most part, but bearing in mind the location of the nursery is among lots of flats I do feel more efforts could be made to ensure the children are not disrupting neighbours. I have tried to call the nursery directly to discuss but their phone lines send you in circles with options.

My son has been at Bright Horizons Hyde Park for almost 6 months now, he has settled in extremely well, and loves his surroundings. I know this because he’s excited at drop off, has been eating and sleeping well, and has developed massively over the course of his attendance at the nursery. True there had been some changes in Management, but actually this turned out for the better, as the team currently in place is professional, caring, friendly, and supportive of all children and parents. Most importantly they offer a sense of safety to both children and parents. The nursery and the Management team are continuously improving the premises to create more stimulating spaces and activities for the children. They appreciate feedback and suggestions which as a parent is reassuring. A massive thank you to the entire team.

Our daughter has been in the nursery since she was 7 months and we moved her to full days a few months ago. The transition was super easy which took us by pleasant surprise and is a reflection of the great care the nursery provide. The teachers provide timely updates of their schedules. They also share feedback as well as observations of her growth and developments. The include activities like show and tell, yoga which my daughter loves and is a great for their learning and confidence. My daughter looks forward to going to the nursery and meeting her friends and teachers which is very sweet and reassuring.

To potential new parents of Bright Horizon, Hyde Park. I write this review to share our experience with this specific branch of Bright Horizon. Our daughter, who is now 2,5 yr old, attended the toddler room from Sep 2022 to Dec 2023. Initially, our journey with BH Hyde Park was great, as management and staff was rock solid and had all worked in the nursery for many years. The manager had to retire in summer 2023 and this was when the staff turnover rocketed and so much turbulence hit the nursery the following 6 months. Coming from an OFSTED report that was ‘outstanding’ to an ‘inadequate’ rating in August 23, months without proper transparency, communication nor plan for how to resolve basic operational aspects and several new key caregivers, we decided to pull our daughter out. We are now able to compare the care and attention she received at BH with the care she receives in another nursery now, and I must say there is a huge difference in her behaviour and confidence. I rarely write reviews, but as this concerns small human beings, I would want to know everything I could about the place I trust with my children. Our experience with Bright Horizon, Hyde Park nursery, was far from good in terms communication, structure, pro-active attitude and most importantly creating a predictable everyday life for our daughter. Several other parents also reached out to Bright Horizon HQ, including myself, requesting support to the nursery and making official complaints, as alarming facts about the children were shared in the parent group, but these were not followed up on by HQ, which was a massive disappointment and great frustration. I sincerely hope that things have changed to the better by now, but if I was a new parent looking for a good nursery for my child, I would look somewhere else.
