Building Blocks Preschool, established in Watford in 2017, is dedicated to fostering a nurturing, stimulating, and inclusive environment where children can flourish. Due to its initial success, a second branch was opened in Watford to meet growing demand.

The preschool places a strong emphasis on early childhood development, recognising it as a crucial stage for learning and growth. A team of qualified practitioners is committed to encouraging curiosity, creativity, and confidence in each child through a play-based learning approach and individualised support.

Building Blocks Preschool serves families in and around Watford, providing a secure, welcoming, and enriching space that lays a strong foundation for children's future learning journeys. The nursery also addresses Special Educational Needs & Disabilities (SEND) in accordance with the Code of Practice (0–25 years, 2015), ensuring that children with learning difficulties or disabilities receive the necessary support to learn and develop.

They offer additional activities such as weekly cooking sessions for younger children, Marvellous Makaton for 2-3 year olds, and meditation and mindfulness practices to help children manage emotions.

How they support every child

Outdoor space

During outdoor play, staff encourage children to use play equipment as boats and row to imaginary islands. Staff support children's curiosity and language development by encouraging them to describe what they see on the various islands.

EAL / language support

A high percentage of children who attend speak English as an additional language. Staff engage well with families to develop a good understanding of children's home languages and use this knowledge to develop a library system where children and carers share stories in various languages to support children's learning.

My child has been with building blocks nursery for about 2 years now. The staff are incredibly kind and supportive my child has grown so much confidence and independence since joining her development has come along so well due to being at nursery she’s picked up so much! The communication with the parents is good is well! My child is always talking of the teachers at home which shows how much of a positive impression they have made. We are so grateful to the whole team and I would highly recommend this nursery to any parent.

Our daughter absolutely loves Building Blocks Preschool. She settled in very quickly and is always eager to go in. The teachers are so lovely and caring, making it a wonderful environment to learn. If you are considering this preschool, I would highly recommend!

Building Blocks Preschool has been an absolute gem for our child's early development journey. From the moment we enrolled our little one, we were impressed by the warm, nurturing environment and the dedication of the teachers. The curriculum at Building Blocks is thoughtfully designed to foster not just academic growth, but also social and emotional development. Our child has flourished in their care, gaining confidence in interacting with peers, expressing themselves, and tackling new challenges. What sets Building Blocks apart is the exceptional quality of its teachers. They truly understand each child's unique needs and abilities, adapting their teaching methods accordingly. Their passion for early childhood education is evident in every interaction, and they go above and beyond to ensure that every child receives the attention and support they need to thrive. Building Blocks has been a fantastic nursery for our daughter and we could not be happier with their service. The whole team are so inclusive of all the children and give excellent 1 to 1 feedback to parents at pick-up times showing that they have taken a real interest in what every child has been doing. Our daughter also has an allergy which the team have handled brilliantly without any issues and we feel that she is very safe in their hands. Would highly recommend them, and already have done to family and friends. Keep up the great work guys!
