What it's like to attend

• Staff know when they talk to children to speak slowly and clearly. They give children time to think and respond to what has been said.
• Parents and grandparents are very complimentary about the service the nursery provides. They appreciate the use of online communications and the regular photos and updates they receive.
• Staff teach children to keep themselves safe and to identify risks, such as slippery surfaces outdoors.
• The manager and staff have good partnerships with feeder schools, inviting teachers into the nursery to meet children.
• The manager and staff work together to develop the nursery, for example, making recent changes to the outdoor provision for babies and working with the local community to build large equipment.
• Staff are very well supported by the manager, who has an open-door policy and provides a safe and confidential environment for discussions.
• Staff encourage children's self-care skills, such as handwashing before eating and after using the toilet.
• Some staff are innovative at introducing numbers and counting into children's play, for example, drawing dots on pegs and spoons.
• Children are encouraged to develop their independence skills as they serve their own food at lunchtime.
