Coton Day Nursery and Out of School Club in Cambridge, established in 2019, provides a good standard of care and education for children aged 1 to 11 years. The nursery operates from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm, Monday to Friday, all year round.
The out-of-school club is open during term time, from 7:30 am to 9:00 am and 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm. The setting, located on the site of Coton C of E Community Primary School, encourages children to freely explore and choose activities.
The inspector noted children moving around the playroom and engaging in activities in the garden, reflecting the emphasis on child-led play and outdoor learning. Older children positively influence younger ones during meal and snack times, fostering an understanding of nutrition and hydration.
The nursery maintains a largely calm and harmonious environment where minor disputes are quickly resolved, and children learn to regulate their emotions using tools like sand timers. Since the previous inspection, the manager and staff have made significant improvements, particularly in confidently planning activities that support learning and encourage children to build on existing knowledge.
Parents have observed these positive changes, valuing the regular updates and ideas provided for supporting learning at home, such as through a lending library with prompts for parents. The manager ensures staff receive regular supervision, support, and training, contributing to a friendly and positive environment where staff respect children's actions and views, allowing them to reach natural conclusions in their explorations.
