Crossley Mill Nursery, situated in the picturesque heart of Hebden Bridge, provides a nurturing and inviting "home-from-home" atmosphere for infants, toddlers, and preschool-aged children. Understanding the immense importance of choosing childcare, the nursery was established in 1998 by parents with a vision to deliver the same level of affection, protection, and dedication they desired for their own offspring.
As a parent-led, not-for-profit community, Crossley Mill Nursery distinguishes itself by reinvesting all resources directly into the children's welfare and development, rather than benefitting shareholders. The nursery is open 50 weeks a year, operating Monday to Friday from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm.
It boasts an exceptional outdoor play area, thoughtfully designed to encourage extensive outdoor engagement, complemented by freshly prepared, healthy, and vegetarian meals that cater to children's nutritional needs. Parents consistently praise the skilled and caring team, highlighting the individualised attention and encouragement their children receive, which contributes to their happiness, development, and smooth transition to school.

Verbatim quotes recorded in the Ofsted inspection
Parents feel staff are 'like family' and that children are 'valued, nurtured and loved'.
Inclusion & environment
Staff are quick to identify children who need extra support with their learning, providing a rapid response for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). This includes implementing interventions, acting swiftly on referrals and working in close partnership with parents by listening to their concerns and ensuring they are integral to each child's individual support.
Outdoors, children develop mark-making skills with chunky paintbrushes in the sand. The nursery has invested significantly in an outdoor area that encourages risk-taking and physical challenge, where children confidently navigate different terrains, including ramps, climbing equipment and tunnels.
A really great nursery with excellent staff. Our son really enjoys it there and we've seen such a big step change in his progression since he's attended. The food cooked on site is fantastic and we regularly get updates on what he's been doing and his achievements. Cannot recommend it highly enough.
Read on GoogleCrossley Mill has been a superb nursery for both my children. The staff are lovely, warm and welcoming. The nursery has its own cook who creates fantastic, healthy and delicious vegetarian food. The activities are varied and interesting and as a not for profit nursery they are always looking at ways to improve the nursery experience for the children. The nursery iteself is beautiful, colourful and cosy with views overlooking the canal. I cannot praise this nursery and the staff enough.
Read on GoogleThank you so much for taking such wonderful care of our two boys for the last three years. Not once have they ever come home with anything but smiles on their faces, this is testament to the work that all staff and management put in to this very special nursery. Again, thank you for all the happy memories.
