Devonshire Rooms Pre-school, established in 2005, operates from Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm, during term time, catering to children aged 2 to 4 years. Rated as 'Good' by Ofsted in October 2022, the pre-school offers a stimulating environment where children are encouraged to make choices about their play both indoors and outdoors.

Staff are actively engaged with all children, fostering an atmosphere where youngsters are confident and eager to explore and learn new experiences. The pre-school places a strong emphasis on independence, teaching children self-care skills such as washing hands and pouring drinks, and encouraging them to help themselves to healthy snacks.

Older children are supported in developing complex speech, while younger children are encouraged to build vocabulary and confidence in communication. The dedicated team works tirelessly to provide a comprehensive programme tailored to children's individual special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), collaborating with parents and other professionals to ensure a consistent approach to development.

Outdoor learning is a key feature, with children thoroughly enjoying exploring the outside world, observing animals, and experimenting with natural materials, which particularly benefits those who may not always have access to outdoor play. Children are also encouraged to solve problems, think critically, and develop mathematical understanding through their play, taking the lead in activities and considering their own safety and that of others.

What it's like

Children make choices from a wide range of play experiences both inside and outside. Staff are deployed effectively, with active and positive interaction and engagement with all the children. Children are confident, eager to learn and enthusiastically absorb new and exciting experiences.
