Our ethos

Footsteps is a family run children's day nursery, preschool and out of school club based in Leighton Buzzard. We believe that learning starts the day we are born. We use a range of educational philosophies, (such as Montessori, Rudolf Steiner, Vygotsky, Reggio Emilia etc), to implement the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum at Footsteps. Our aim is for the Footsteps children to benefit from our holistic approach to childcare and education so that they are fully prepared for starting, (or continuing), school. Our staff are experienced, well trained and many of them are parents themselves and bring their own children to Footsteps! At Footsteps we try to emulate what is happening at home. If you are potty training your child, cutting out their afternoon nap, or removing their dummy for part of the day, we will work alongside you to encourage your child to do likewise at nursery.

Inclusion & environment

How they support every child

SEND provision

Staff identify children that need support with communication and language. They work with parents to deliver extra activities to develop these skills.

Outdoor space

At times, children are encouraged to be physically active in the outside area. Children also visit the nearby moor regularly to access a larger outdoor space; however, staff do not make the best use of the outside area to support the learning and development of children who prefer to learn outdoors.

Footsteps has been a fantastic place for our little one. The staff are incredibly warm, friendly, and clearly have strong bonds with the children, they really make an effort to get to know each child and it shows. There’s plenty of time spent playing outdoors in the garden, which is a big highlight. It’s such a comfort knowing our child is happy, well cared for, and genuinely enjoys going each day. Highly recommend!

Footsteps is amazing!!! Such a wonderful home from home nursery. My two boys have had an educational, nurturing and hilarious time there! I’m so pleased overall, staff are simply brilliant and completely give off such a warm family feel. (Breakfast being added was such a bonus in the morning for busy parents)!! Highly recommend.

Footsteps Nursery played an incredibly important part in my granddaughter’s early years. I know she was extremely happy and comfortable in the setting and this is a credit to the amazing, caring staff that ALL played an important role in this. Footsteps is very much a ‘home from home’ nursery and this is evident when dropping off or collecting her. One area of particular praise has to be the healthy, nutritious homemade meals, from breakfast to tea there is always something for everyone. I love that they promote British Values and celebrate all the different holidays and religious celebrations. Footsteps have given my granddaughter a very sturdy foundation for her next adventure at school.

Footsteps Nursery has been a true blessing for our family. The staff are always warm, caring, and genuinely seem to love what they do. I especially appreciate how well they communicate with us — keeping us updated on what’s happening, sharing photos or news from the day. There are so many little things that show their dedication — for example, I love when I arrive to collect my grandson and he’s proudly showing off the “cakes” he’s made that day! And the Christmas celebrations are absolutely magical, especially with Father Christmas visiting — it’s a joy to see the excitement in the children’s faces.

My daughter has been coming to Footsteps since March 2024 and she absolutely loves it! It is a lovely nursery setting and all of the staff are amazing. They really go above and beyond! My daughter has come on so much since attending footsteps. It really is a home from home for our children and that’s all down to the staff. I couldn’t ask for a better nursery for my daughter. Thanks Footsteps for all you do ❤️
