First For Childcare operates a network of nurseries across the North of England, including Happy Jays York, focusing on providing high-quality and dedicated childcare. The organisation emphasises strong partnerships with parents and professionals, valuing their input to meet each child's individual needs.
Their educational philosophy is centred around creating an engaging environment that fosters intuitive and developing children, a principle applied from the baby room through to pre-school, preparing children for their transition to school. The team members are well-qualified and receive continuous training and support to enhance their knowledge and practices, with safeguarding training renewed annually, exceeding the government's three-year requirement.
Children are encouraged to learn through play, exploring their interests, making friends, and discovering new things in a happy and secure setting. The "MORE Childcare Approach" guides their operations, focusing on motivating both staff and children, providing ongoing opportunities for learning and development, building strong relationships with families based on trust, and continually evolving the learning environment to present new opportunities.

Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) make good progress from their starting points. Staff benefit from regular visits from a dedicated SEND specialist, who shares her expertise with them. Parents of children with SEND also value the support their children receive at the nursery.
Babies enjoy being taken for walks in the local community. Children also take part in forest school sessions, with the highlight being toasting marshmallows over a fire. In the pre-school garden they negotiate different obstacles to develop their balance and coordination.
All of the staff are lovely and so knowledgeable, my little boy is thriving in their setting!
