About this early years setting

Stepping Stones Day Nursery & Out of School Club is located in York and provides care for children from birth to nine years of age. The nursery is open from 7.30am to 6pm, Monday to Friday, all year round. The curriculum focuses on promoting children's communication, language, and independence. At its inspection in January 2023, Ofsted judged the nursery to be 'Good'. Staff work with parents and other professionals to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities.

The Ofsted inspector noted that children are motivated and curious, forming strong bonds with staff and feeling secure. They engage in activities with concentration, developing their own ideas such as testing a boat's buoyancy. Babies investigate sensory toys, while older children develop literacy and mathematical skills. Children have opportunities for fresh air and energetic play outdoors, where they can also practise writing. Staff promote healthy lifestyles by providing nutritious meals and teaching hygiene routines.

What it's like

Children arrive at the setting eager and ready to learn, forming strong bonds with staff and feeling secure and safe. They are motivated and curious, eagerly joining in activities and developing their own ideas, such as testing a cardboard boat's buoyancy. Babies investigate sensory toys, while older children develop early literacy and mathematical skills and fine-motor skills, confidently asking for assistance and enjoying staff's positive involvement in their play.
