Hopscotch Day Nursery, established in 2007, operates from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm on weekdays, all year round, caring for children aged 0-5 years. The nursery received a 'Good' rating in its latest Ofsted inspection on 8th August 2025.
Children are encouraged to be curious and engaged, with staff fostering confidence and creativity across all age groups. The well-planned curriculum supports children in building knowledge and skills progressively, preparing them for future learning.
A particular strength is the strong focus on outdoor learning, where children are guided to explore and understand nature, developing coordination and balance while learning about plants. For instance, toddlers explore fern leaves and draw plants, while older children run and climb.
The nursery also places a strong emphasis on healthy eating, with chefs preparing menus that link to current learning projects, such as blackberry snacks during a "Blackberry Moon" project. Children are also encouraged to be independent, with opportunities to serve themselves food, use cutlery, and help with tasks like cutting fruit for snacks, promoting personal care and fine motor skills.
Staff interactions are designed to develop communication skills and expand vocabulary, introducing new words as children engage in activities. While staff build strong relationships with children to foster security, the nursery aims to further develop its key-person system to ensure parents are consistently informed and involved.
Leaders prioritise staff well-being, leading to a happy and supported team who undertake training to enhance children's learning experiences, including recent boosts in science and technology activities.
