Into-Play @ The Quays is a well-established nursery in Gloucester, opening its doors in January 2013. Housed in a former public house, it quickly became a highly sought-after childcare setting, evidenced by the immediate waiting list upon its opening.
The nursery is registered to care for up to 68 children and boasts expansive playrooms alongside beautiful outdoor areas. Its location near the historic Gloucester Docks and Quays Outlet offers unique opportunities for children to explore the local environment during walks.
Conveniently situated, it serves the local community of Hempsted and is easily accessible for parents commuting from areas such as Quedgeley, Highnam, and Hartpury. The nursery received a "Good" rating in its June 2022 Ofsted inspection, with inspectors praising the safe and secure environment provided by the staff and the child-centred approach to learning and play that allows children to flourish.
The nursery prioritises continuous staff development and training to maintain high-quality childcare standards, ensuring practitioners are motivated, up-to-date, and focused on individual child development through a robust key person system. Many staff members are parents themselves, offering a deeper understanding of parents' initial apprehensions.
The nursery also contributes to local education by offering work experience placements to students from Gloucester University, Gloucestershire College, and local schools, with some students eventually joining the team full-time after qualifying.

What it's like
Staff are kind and caring and children enjoy spending time with them, however, key persons do not use their knowledge of the children to create challenging opportunities or purposeful interactions to extend learning. The provider is aware of areas for improvement but actions taken have not yet had the desired impact. Curriculum delivery is not consistent across the nursery.

Inclusion & environment
Children who need additional support are not always quickly identified; some staff are unaware of the processes to follow. Children with identified needs have support in place to help them access the nursery environment. However, children with gaps in learning, who would benefit from external support, are not identified and referred quickly enough. The provider does not always make staff aware of the processes to follow to get this support for children.
Children have regular opportunities for fresh air and exercise. Babies explore the sandpit in the garden and giggle as they go down the small slide. Staff expose children to a range of experiences when they go on walks in the local community and visit the museum.
This is my second nursery which our son has attended , following a not great experience at the first , we had high expectations ! And I can say with both our children attending they have fulfilled them all. The team are friendly and professional , I feel like they are an extension of our family unit and I know that they care for my children as if they are there own. The manager at the quays is helpful and nothing is ever too much problem and the teams have helped our child develop and be ready for school . I am always impressed by the variety of activities offered and the time spent accommodating your child's likes and needs . If it isn't clear I would recommend to anyone this nursery without hesitation
Read on GoogleCan't rate these guys high enough. Our son has been going full time since he was 8 months old. He crawls off with a massive grin in the morning and is always happily playing when I pick him up. Louise (his KW) and the girls in the under twos are amazing and I'm sure he sees them as extended family! Going back to work when you've had a little one is tricky; but knowing that our sprog is in amazing hands makes it that bit better!
