Jo Jo's Day Care Nursery - Canterbury, registered in 2025, provides childcare for children from birth to four years old at its Canterbury location. The day nursery operates Monday to Friday from 7:15 AM to 6:30 PM.
While leaders and staff have created a welcoming and safe environment, with a particular focus on the inclusion and support of children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND) through a dedicated sensory room, there are areas requiring urgent improvement. The inspection highlighted that the curriculum lacks ambition and breadth, preventing consistent progress in children's learning.
Staff also need more support to fully understand their roles and responsibilities and to effectively implement behaviour policies. Safeguarding standards are met, with an open culture of safeguarding in place.
Leaders are proactive in identifying children needing additional support and work with external agencies to ensure appropriate care plans are in place. Children enjoy outdoor play, and babies have opportunities for local walks, with staff fostering awareness of safety.
Despite challenges, staff build kind relationships with children, helping them feel settled and promoting social skills like sharing and turn-taking.
Our ethos
Jo Jo's Day Care Nursery employs a child-led educational philosophy, tailoring teaching methods to individual needs, which fosters exploration and interaction. They provide a stimulating and secure setting for children's growth and learning, with an emphasis on exploration, learning, and interaction, aiming to provide exceptional care and education, ensuring children thrive from a young age.
What it's like
Leaders do not have sufficient oversight of the quality of the provision to tackle weaknesses effectively. The curriculum lacks ambition and breadth, which prevents children from building effectively on what they already know. Staff are not adequately supported to fully understand their roles and responsibilities, so not all children make consistent progress in their learning. Leaders and staff have created a welcoming space where children settle and feel safe, and children with special educational needs and/or disabilities are well considered so that they feel included and part of the setting.

Inclusion & environment
Leaders and staff are knowledgeable about how to support children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND), monitoring their progress and providing support to help them catch up with identified gaps, particularly in speech and language. A sensory room has been created to support children with SEND to feel settled and safe, and they receive calm, nurturing and effective support to regulate their emotions. Leaders take positive steps to help children with SEND get appropriate support through outside agencies.
Children enjoy spending time outside to support their physical skills. Babies have opportunities to go on a walk in the local area. Staff develop children's awareness about their safety.
