Opening hours
Monday to Friday, from 7.30am to 6pm
Kiddi Caru Day Nursery and Preschool Soundwell, registered in 2023, provides childcare for children aged 0-5 years in Kingwood, Bristol. The nursery operates year-round, Monday to Friday, from 7:30 am to 6 pm.
The setting has an overall Ofsted rating of 'Requires Improvement' from its latest inspection on June 13, 2025. While younger children benefit from a well-sequenced curriculum and prioritised communication, the personal, social, and emotional development curriculum for pre-schoolers needs improvement, particularly in supporting self-regulation and positive behaviour.
The nursery offers a welcoming environment where children settle quickly, and physical activity is integrated throughout the day, including outdoor play with swings and balancing ropes to encourage physical development. Leaders have introduced resources like visual aids, calm boxes, and a sensory room to support emotional regulation and transitions, but consistent implementation by staff is an area for development, as is the timely identification of learning needs, especially for children with SEND.
What it's like
Children arrive at the nursery happy and confident, settling quickly with familiar staff who offer individual greetings and reassurance. While the curriculum for younger children is well-sequenced, the personal, social and emotional development curriculum in the pre-school room is not effectively implemented, leading to challenges with behaviour and self-regulation for older children, including those with SEND. Physical activity is integrated throughout the day, enabling children to develop their physical skills.

Inclusion & environment
Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) are not supported to understand the consequences of their actions or practise strategies to help them self-regulate. Pre-school staff do not consistently support older children, particularly those with SEND, to do things for themselves. While some children receive timely support, others with emerging needs are not recognised soon enough, which delays intervention. Information about developmental concerns is not always shared promptly or in sufficient detail with parents. Leaders have used funding for resources like visual aids and calm boxes, though these are not consistently implemented. A sensory room is available for quieter, small-group opportunities.
Physical activity is woven throughout the day. Babies ride on wheeled toys to strengthen their legs and coordination. Outdoors, older children swing on a tyre and balance along a rope, enabling them to challenge themselves physically with staff close by to support. Inspectors observed the quality of education during indoor and outdoor play and assessed the impact on children's learning.
Some children with delayed language access targeted small-group activities to help build their vocabulary and understanding. Communication is prioritised from the earliest stages, with staff modelling language clearly and consistently, naming objects, repeating key words, and narrating routines to build young children's understanding. Staff also introduce words linked to everyday experiences, such as naming animals during play or familiar objects during routines, and support children to learn new words in context.
