About this day nursery

La Petite Academy, established in October 1995, is a welcoming and distinctive nursery situated in a peaceful residential area of Littleover. The nursery operates from a spacious single-story building and is authorised to provide care for 76 children, though daily attendance is capped at 66 to ensure high-quality care.

Catering to children aged 3 months to 5 years, it also offers morning and afterschool clubs for children up to 11 years old. The nursery benefits from a convenient location away from the main road, with dedicated parking.

La Petite Academy is recognised for its high standards, having received a "GOOD" rating across all areas in its November 2023 Ofsted inspection. The establishment focuses on creating a warm and inviting atmosphere, providing individual attention, and demonstrating flexibility to meet the needs of families.

They also provide wrap-around care, including breakfast and after-school clubs, and a holiday club for school-aged children, prioritising those who attend their regular clubs for holiday bookings. Meals are provided in these clubs from the nursery menu, accommodating all dietary needs.

What parents say

Verbatim quotes recorded in the Ofsted inspection

Parents comment that staff go 'above and beyond' and help to prepare children well for school.

Inclusion & environment

How they support every child

SEND provision

Support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) is highly effective. Staff use their knowledge and skills to implement appropriate support plans and engage swiftly with other professionals. Children with SEND thrive and achieve good outcomes.

Outdoor space

Staff provide regular opportunities for children to go outside and take part in physical play, showing confidence and control as they climb, jump, balance and use wheeled toys. However, staff do not always help children to further their play ideas or provide resources to extend outdoor games like den-making.

My experience with La Petite was heartbreaking and deeply disappointing. When my son was two years old, he began acting out, but instead of supporting him, the staff at La Petite treated him in ways that were completely inappropriate. I was called several times and told to collect him immediately, even though I had just given birth and was caring for a newborn. On one occasion, when I arrived, I found my son locked alone in a room while the staff stood outside, saying they were “fearing for their safety.” He was just a toddler — he didn’t understand why he was being isolated and treated like that. It was devastating to see how frightened and confused he was. I removed him from the nursery right away and moved him to Bizzy Kidz. Within a week, the staff there reassured me they had no issues with his behaviour at all. He stayed happily with them until his graduation, with zero behavioural problems. I would strongly advise parents to think twice before sending their children to La Petite. The way they treated my son — as if he were a danger rather than a child in need of care and understanding — broke my heart and left a lasting emotional impact on him. Additional comment to owners response; I completely disagree with your response. The claim that I was unable to attend meetings is entirely false. I attended every meeting that was scheduled and went out of my way to communicate with your team about my child’s needs and wellbeing. To suggest otherwise is misleading and unfair. I made every effort to engage and support the process, yet the concerns I raised were not handled appropriately. It’s disappointing to see inaccurate statements made publicly instead of accountability being taken for the issues that occurred.

Both my children love nursery days and have made lovely bonds with staff and other children alike. The setting is very well thought out with lots of things to do and play with, as well as lots of planned activities and themed occasions. I love that the nursery embrace all cultural holidays and occasions, which I think is really important to promote from a young age. My children have been coming here from 10 months old, one is now almost 4 and the other is almost 3 and they love it. I feel confident that my children are well looked after and entertained/educated whilst they spend time there. My son had a choking incident at nursery recently (which is obviously unavoidable) Chelsea dealt with it impeccably and is a real credit to La Petite with her big personality and caring nature. My daughter in particular has made wonderful bonds with both Chelsea and Seren and she will miss them immensely when she moves on to infants school in the Autumn. Overall, a great nursery with even better people. All very warm and welcoming and a big shout out to Seren, Chelsea and Jodie who are very popular in my house 🤣 I am so pleased we chose this nursery, it was definitely the right choice for us! My Daughter has recently started La Petite Nursery in Tiddlers, she has settled in very well. The staff have all been lovely and reassuring all polite and friendly. I love that each day you get a written and verbal handover of exactly what your child has ate, when they have napped and even when their last nappy change was. It’s really proactive. My daughter seems so happy and comfortable when I drop her off and pick her up. Within the time she has been there she has been kept busy; baking, colouring, making frozen yogurts and all sorts. Such a positive experience so far I am hopeful this will continue. A big and genuine thank you to all the staff.

We couldn't be happier with La Petite Academy. Our daughter loves the tiddler room and the wonderful, caring staff. We know she couldn't be in better hands than Seren and Becky's, and we always get fantastic reports of what she's been up to during the day. We can't recommend them highly enough.

La Petite is a really good nursery. My son loves to go there especially to play in the big sand pit. He has really progressed and grown in the 2 years he has been there and the staff really care and engage with the children. They do activities out of nursery which we have attended and proved popular as they are always so busy. The feedback we get at the end of the day is always informative and I would highly recommend this place to people.
