What it's like to attend

How they support every child

SEND provision

Leaders and staff have very high expectations for what all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) can achieve. Staff access training and qualifications that help them to confidently observe children and assess their progress. Children benefit from individual learning plans that help to ensure they receive the right support at the right time. Staff make timely referrals to agencies and quickly incorporate the advice of specialist professionals into children's individual programmes. In addition, they work collaboratively with parents to share strategies that can be used at home to help children have consistent support in their development. Staff who have responsibility, diligently apply for additional funding from the local authority and external agencies. As children grow and develop, staff meticulously review the use of funding for adaptations and interventions. They make timely modifications to ensure that children are able to fully access the environment and every learning opportunity alongside their peers.

Outdoor space

Older children particularly enjoy accessing the outdoor area, where they climb on wooden structures carefully, understanding the rules of how to keep themselves safe. Babies explore sand in low-level boxes. Children have regular opportunities to play and explore outside and enjoy physical exercise. Staff provide opportunities to safely climb and navigate risks. For example, children are carefully monitored as they climb over a low fence and, when jumping, they learn how to land safely on the ground.

Lake house is a great nursery. Staff are so friendly and caring and really support each child's development. Our daughter has learnt so much already. Communication is excellent and the nursery has a very much family feel. The children have lots of outdoor time, playing in the garden or trips to the woods. It is nice to get to know the other parents at the nursery gate, with most families living locally. We would highly recommend.

We are so pleased with The Lake House and how they look after our toddler. The staff put in a lot of energy in to do varied and exciting activities, and do so with a caring nature so we’re confident our toddler is well looked after. They seem to really know each child and what they need or like. There is a variety of food served and a garden so the children can go outside. It is very easy to talk to staff if you have any questions or a change in arrangements. Overall we’re very happy we got a place here. Thank you!

We couldn't recommend Lake House more. They give so much care and nurturing to all the children there and are clearly very committed to providing excellent early years education. Our child absolutely loves attending and as a first time parent I couldn't have asked for a better start to his schooling and daycare experience. (They're also surprisingly some of the most affordable providers in the area)

The nursery staff are fantastic, and our child genuinely enjoys attending each day. However, our experience became a bit of a nightmare after the multinational Grandir bought the nursery last year. In April, they unexpectedly announced a significant fee increase, and are charging top-up fees for funded hours. Following numerous complaints from parents, Grandir apologised, attributing the issue to a “calculation error,” and issued a new fee schedule. Unfortunately, this revised schedule was only shared with a select group of families. Now, we’ve learned that the “calculation error” was an excuse to appease the parents that complained, and new families joining the nursery will face the higher fees. Given these issues, the Bristol City Council has taken action in response to parental complaints with the council. They’re currently trying to organise an audit to get to the bottom of things. But guess what? Grandir has postponed the audit not once, not twice, but three times!
