Lechlade Little Learners Preschool, established in 1971 and operating from its current dedicated building since 1982, offers early years education in the heart of Lechlade, next to the local Primary School. As a parent-governed preschool, it focuses on providing a stimulating environment where children can develop a sense of security, independence, self-worth, and confidence, fostering a love for learning.
The nursery emphasises the importance of these formative years as the crucial first step in a child's educational journey. The team of early years professionals is dedicated to individualising the learning experience, drawing inspiration from diverse pedagogies like Reggio Emilia and Montessori rather than adhering to a single approach.
This allows children to explore their interests, engage in rich learning experiences, and develop self-awareness and curiosity. The ultimate goal is to prepare each child for the next stage of their lives with a solid understanding of the world around them.
Our ethos
Lechlade Little Learners aim to develop a child’s feeling of security, independence, self-worth and confidence in a stimulating environment where they can foster a love of learning. We allow the children to follow their own interests and those of their peers, to create a rich learning experience. We do not follow one set approach or pedagogy in our setting, but instead draw from some of the greats, such as Reggio and Montessori. At Little Learners we treat every child as an individual, celebrating their uniqueness.

Inspector highlights
Verbatim quotes recorded in the Ofsted inspection
'fantastic, friendly, welcoming, and highly supportive'
the provision exceeds their expectations and that their children thoroughly enjoy all that they do at the group
Parents feel extremely well informed about their children's experiences and attribute their children's significant progress to the support the children receive from staff.
Inclusion & environment
Staff have an in-depth understanding of children's needs, interests and abilities. Staff instinctively know when children need extra help to deal with their feelings and frustrations and provide just the right support to foster their learning and independence. Staff seek outside professional support without delay to ensure that children receive the extra help they need to maximise their learning.
Children explore the carefully planned, inspiring indoor and outdoor learning environments. They relish outdoor play and develop their agility as they dig, chase bubbles, climb, slide and balance across the challenging obstacle course. They encourage visitors to join their adventure to the 'mountains', and to spot birds and insects attracted to the garden area using readily available binoculars.
An absolutely outstanding Nursery with the most wonderful Nursery team. They are ofstead outstanding which is so well deserved and says it all really.
