Little Birds Forest Nursery offers an exceptional outdoor learning experience within the stunning landscapes of the South Downs. This award-winning, Ofsted Outstanding nursery (Amberley site) is comprised of three unique settings: Amberley Museum, Fittleworth, and Arundel C of E School.
Drawing inspiration from the Reggio Emilia approach and Scandinavian nature preschools, Little Birds focuses on a child-centred pedagogy that encourages self-expression, critical thinking, and a deep connection with the natural world. Children aged 9 months to 5 years are provided with a rich, project-based learning environment that extends from woodlands and beaches to cultural venues like art galleries and theatres.
The nursery prides itself on fostering a love for learning and resilience in children, creating a gentle daily rhythm filled with deep play and meaningful connections. They also emphasise strong partnerships with families, with a vision to offer high-quality, nature-based education that is accessible to all, irrespective of financial circumstances.

Little Birds Forest Nursery believes all children are confident, capable, resilient and powerful individuals. Their core approach is to support children to become happy, healthy, creative and critical thinkers who feel valued and develop a lifelong love of learning. They foster a deep and lasting connection with nature, offering children time and space to develop their relationship with the natural world. The nursery aims to work as part of a community that helps raise children, working closely with families and following their rhythm, celebrating their culture, and making high-quality early years provision accessible to all.

Parents comment very positively about the nursery.
They enjoy being able to view the online application on their child's progress and the individual videos of their children participating in an amazing range of forest school activities.
They welcome being able to share home events that relate to their children's heritage and culture, such as Australia Day, and share recipes from Poland.
Inclusion & environment
There is exceptional support for those children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. The special educational needs coordinator is extremely dedicated and implements agreed strategies with parents and other early years professionals. There is an exceptional focus on teaching children resilience.
All children benefit from a rich and nurturing, forest school learning environment. Children show huge excitement as they use shovels to spread the arrival of new bark chippings in outdoor play. Practitioners ensure children wear appropriate clothing when exploring outdoors. Children have great fun mixing earth with water and concentrate for prolong periods of time given their young age.
