Little Explorers Day Nursery in Sutton Coldfield

As a parent, my partner and I visited this nursery after reading positive reviews, as we have been carefully searching for the right setting for our child. Unfortunately, our experience during the visit left us feeling concerned. In the baby room, the overall atmosphere appeared low in morale. One baby was crawling on a small slide area without any visible direct supervision at that moment, which raised safeguarding concerns for us. The baby changing area was extremely small and cluttered with coats, clothing, nappies, and other items. Most concerning was that the changing area was fully visible from where I was standing, and I could clearly see a baby being changed, including their genitals. This lack of privacy felt inappropriate and unprofessional. In the toddler room, many of the children were visibly upset, with several screaming and crying. The staff appeared overwhelmed and stressed, which did not create a calm or reassuring environment. The preschool room was also disappointing. Books and toys were scattered across the floor, and some furniture appeared worn and in poor condition. During our visit, one child was experiencing a meltdown, and it seemed staff were struggling to manage the situation effectively. This gave the impression that additional training or support may be needed. I was not properly introduced to the wider staff team and was only given the names of the manager, Kerry, and the deputy manager, Abbie. I also found the deputy manager’s manner towards some of the children to be abrupt, which was concerning. While the physical layout of the nursery has potential, our overall impression was that staffing levels, training, and organisation require significant improvement to ensure a safe, supportive, and well-managed environment for children. As parents making an important decision about our child’s care and development, we left feeling disappointed and unable to consider this setting further.

My children have been attending for a number of years. Starting out at the baby room and now just about to leave pre school. The nursery is outstanding, as are the staff. There’s lots of activities and trips to the shops, park, baking etc. my children have loved it. Especially the pre school room and the staff there. Special mention to Abi, Keira and Eva, whom my children talk about fondly, all of the time.

The staff at little explorers are simply the best! My little boy loves going to this nursery. Staff are really understanding and extremely caring. Always keep us informed with what out little boy has been up to. Activities are planned for the children one 2 one and in groups. The garden area for the kids is lovely. The rooms are really creative and fun for the children. I would recommend this nursery, it has been a real great stepping stone for both my daughter and son.

My daughter has attended Little Explorers since she was 6 months old. Since the beginning she has loved going to nursery and she is always excited to see the staff. We really enjoy that this nursery brings the children outside each day and has day trips to the zoo, farm and the playground.

We've had our daughter in Little Explorers for years and both we and she have enjoyed every aspect of it. It's a great value for the area especially considering the quality of care. Katy and her team consistently do their best to keep things exciting for the kids, arranging trips to Twycross and walks to area churches on Remembrance Day and trips to the park.
