Outdoor space
Babies develop their gross motor skills in the garden. Children persist when using resources outdoors. The inspector had a learning walk with the manager across all areas of the nursery, inside and outside, to understand how the nursery and the curriculum are organised.
EAL / language support
Staff support children who speak English as an additional language very well. They speak a variety of languages, including Tamil, French, Romanian and Bengali. Staff find out key words that children use in their home language and use these at the nursery to help them feel at home. They use flash cards and a visual timetable to support children who are learning learning English. Key words in different languages are displayed in the nursery for all staff to use. This supports children's confidence and self-esteem and helps them to make good progress when learning English.

As a parent, I have been extremely pleased with the care and education my child receives at Little Rayes Day Nursery. The staff are consistently warm, caring, and attentive to each child’s individual needs. They create a welcoming atmosphere where children feel safe, valued, and supported in their development. The nursery environment is clean, secure, and well-organised, offering a variety of stimulating activities that promote learning through play. Staff communicate effectively with parents, providing regular updates on progress, routines, and achievements. I have full confidence that my child is in safe hands and is thriving both socially and academically. Little Rays Nursery in Croydon has been such a wonderful place for my child. From the very first day, the staff made us feel welcome and supported. Everyone is so caring and kind, and it’s clear they truly love what they do. The manager is incredibly supportive and always communicates openly with parents, which makes such a difference. I really appreciate how she takes time to listen, share updates, and ensure we always feel involved in our child’s day and development. The nursery itself is clean, safe, and filled with fun and creative activities that help the children learn and grow. My child has become so much more confident, talkative, and independent since joining — it’s amazing to see. I honestly couldn’t ask for a better nursery. My daughter Sofia absolutely loves Little Rayes Nursery. The staff are incredibly kind, patient, and caring — they treat every child as their own.
