Lowmoor Nursery, located in Wigton, Cumbria, and registered in 2018, offers a warm and welcoming environment for children aged 0 to 4. The nursery operates from Monday to Friday, all year round, between 8am and 5:30pm, closing only for bank holidays.
With 14 dedicated childcare staff, including two with qualified teacher status, the team focuses on building strong relationships with children and parents. They implement a sequenced and ambitious curriculum that builds on children's existing knowledge, with a particular emphasis on developing early literacy skills through core stories and fostering emotional well-being by helping toddlers understand feelings through colours.
The setting is well-equipped to support children with Special Educational Needs and/or Disabilities (SEND), providing tailored support and working in partnership with external professionals and parents. Lowmoor Nursery also boasts an impressive outdoor area that children love, where they can develop both large and small motor skills through play with wheeled toys, large apparatus, and imaginative activities like an ice-cream parlour.

Inclusion & environment
Children with SEND and those in receipt of additional funding are well supported. Early interventions are in place, and staff provide tailored support. Leaders and staff partner with external professionals and parents to identify needs and narrow gaps. Additional funding, such as the early years pupil premium, enhances the curriculum and provides new experiences. All children receive the support needed to make good progress.
The impressive newly added outdoor area is loved by all the children. Older children develop their large muscles as they manoeuvre wheeled toys and use large apparatus, while younger children develop small muscles using ice-cream scoops and role play in an ice-cream parlour. Physical development is well supported.
