Maidendale Nursery, established in 2004, provides a caring and nurturing environment for children aged 0-9 years. Rated 'Good' by Ofsted in June 2023, the nursery offers an exceptionally well-resourced setting where children show high levels of confidence and self-esteem.
The curriculum encourages independence and problem-solving skills, with older children demonstrating remarkable ingenuity, such as using their socks as containers to scoop sand. The nursery operates all year round.
A key feature is the strong support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), with staff proactively engaging with other professionals and effectively using additional funding to support vulnerable children. Outdoor learning is highly valued, with babies learning to navigate inclines and older children developing an understanding of nature by discussing plant care.
Staff focus on clear communication, introducing new vocabulary, and are creative in developing early mark-making skills. The manager and staff work as an integrated team, with a shared desire for children to achieve at the heart of their approach.

Inclusion & environment
Support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities is a key feature of the nursery. The manager and staff proactively engage with a wide range of other professionals, enabling children and families to get the specialist support they need. Staff effectively use additional funding to support vulnerable children.
Children relish the learning opportunities in the outdoor environment. Babies learn to negotiate inclines and manoeuvre themselves around children and resources. Older children talk with confidence about caring for the natural world and nurturing living things, discussing the need for water for plants and using smaller watering cans for small plants.

Maidendale Nursery registered in 2004 and is located in Darlington. The nursery employs 19 childcare staff, with a mix of qualifications including one at level 6 and 15 at level 3. The nursery operates all year round, Monday to Friday, from 7.30am until 6pm, and provides funded early education for two-, three-, and four-year-old children.
