Mary Poppins Day Nursery, established in 1989, provides childcare in Derby, catering to children aged 1 to 5 years old. The nursery aims to offer a "home from home" environment where children can flourish.
It is located in a sympathetically converted Victorian-style detached property at the quiet end of Chain Lane, opposite the Muirfield estate entrance, bordering Littleover and Mickleover, and is approximately half a mile from the Royal Derby Hospital. The nursery includes an independent baby unit and seven activity rooms, designed to accommodate small groups of children, allowing for age-appropriate segregation and development.
Children can participate in a wide range of activities, including art, creativity, construction, role-play, outdoor play, gymnastics, and sensory experiences. Each group is cared for by qualified and experienced staff, with a focus on consistent staffing to ensure continuous progress and effective communication with parents.
Child development and progress charts, known as profiles or learning journeys, are maintained and shared with parents every three or six months, depending on the child's age and developmental stage. Mary Poppins Day Nursery was awarded an "Outstanding" rating by Ofsted in 2012.

Inclusion & environment
Support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) is sound. Leaders work closely in partnership with parents and external agencies. Staff skilfully provide targeted intervention. This helps children with SEND to make good progress across all seven areas of learning.
Children benefit from spending time outdoors. Leaders and staff support children to engage in active play using a range of interesting equipment and planned opportunities. This helps to promote children's cardio health as they lift and shift resources to create a complex obstacle course.
