Meadowside Pre-School, located in the heart of the community on the West Leigh Infant Primary School site in Backwell, North Somerset, offers a nurturing and stimulating environment for children aged 2 to 8 years. The preschool operates during term-time, from 7:30 am to 5 pm, Monday to Friday.

Emphasising an outdoor, play-based, and child-led curriculum, Meadowside provides ample opportunities for exploration and learning, fostering an appreciation for the natural world. Children engage in daily outdoor sessions, regardless of the weather, promoting physical activity, sensory development, and a deeper connection with nature across all seasons.

The indoor environment is equally designed to be safe, secure, and challenging, accommodating various activities, rest, and meals. Fees are charged per session, with options including breakfast, morning (with or without lunch), afternoon, all day, and tea sessions. Government funding is accepted from the term after the child's third birthday.

What it's like to attend

How they support every child

SEND provision

All children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), make good progress as there is a well-sequenced and planned curriculum that staff follow. The special educational needs coordinator spoke to the inspector about how they support children with SEND.

Outdoor space

Two-year-olds play outside, concentrating hard as they create a rail track for their trains. Children explore water and sand in the lovely garden. Children think about how water spreads over the ground and evaporates in the sun. Two-year-olds laugh as they spray water and see how far it will reach.
