The feel well informed about their children's learning, including the two year progress check discussed and completed during the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic.
They value the communication they have from staff, which offers highly practical guidance on how to support children's learning at home and to provide healthy lunches.
Inclusion & environment
Staff identify children with emerging needs early and have clear plans to support these needs. Staff are trained to deliver specialist language groups to help children develop their communication skills. This helps children to catch up quickly and exceed the expectations for their age.
Children use owl puppets to fly around the garden, replicating story lines and repeating familiar phrases. They develop physical control and strength through an abundance of opportunities, climbing, balancing, and safely manoeuvring tricycles around the garden.
Our daughter joined Millington Road in January 2025 and absolutely loves her time there. It is a really lovely setting with a lot of greenery - beautiful and well thought through outdoor space. The team are brilliant - it's very impressive to see the range of activities (external rugby tots, music, clay and baking - all every week!). They have a lovely structure to their day - consistent but with flex where needed. The communication is always good and very clear, and lovely detailed observations. We've moved and added a family member and Millington Road have definitely helped smooth those processes as much as possible! We like the fact it's an independent charity - and have been very impressed with the energy and enthusiasm the head Richard has brought, as well as some impressive carpentry skills which he's explored with the children. We can't wait for our son to turn two and enjoy it as well, but given what they offer targeting the over twos really does make sense. Thank you so much to the whole team!
Read on GoogleOur daughter started at Millington Road Nursery this January, and she is already so incredibly happy and settled. It’s such a wonderful environment for early learning, it feels much more personal and thoughtful than a "typical" nursery setting. What really stands out is their child-led learning approach. The children help set the theme for the term and this term their interests led to a music theme. It’s been lovely to see them exposed to such a wide variety of instruments, especially with parents and locals volunteering their time to come in and play for the children. It makes the whole experience feel so organic and exciting. The outside space is also fantastic. There is so much room for them to explore with plenty of stimulation, which is a huge part of why she loves it there. We were initially a little worried about the shorter hours compared to other local nurseries and having to prepare her food, but it has been so much easier than we thought it would be. In fact, the shorter day has been a real blessing; she isn’t nearly as exhausted as she might be elsewhere, and the pace of life just feels more balanced for her. If you’re looking for a nursery in Cambridge that truly prioritises a child’s wellbeing and follows their natural curiosity with strong community feel surrounding them, I can’t recommend Millington Road highly enough.
Read on GoogleExceeded all expectations I had of what a nursery setting could offer. The staff are incredible and go out of their way to create a warm nurturing environment for the children. They are incredibly tuned into the children and always take the time to give thoughtful feedback at pickup as to how the day has gone - not something I got at other settings with my daughter. The activities they run for the children are brilliant and my son loves being there. It's set back from a quiet road in a leafy setting and is really a very special place!
Read on GoogleOur 3-year-old daughter has been attending here for about six months, and both my husband and I are so pleased that, even though there are two Outstanding nurseries within walking distance of our new home, we still choose to cycle 20 minutes to take her to Millington Road Nursery. We have had experience with another "outstanding" nursery before, and we also exchange views with our friends — in our opinion, Millington Road is the best. The staff is young, loving, and caring. The management (Richard) is doing amazing job. As an educator myself, I must say that I may be finding the instution somewhat overqualified:) We would definitely recommend this nursery — you will not regret choosing it.
Read on GoogleWonderful nursery. Lovely outside space and dedication to maximising outside play. The staff are kind, responsive and supportive to both children and parents. The mixed age environment makes it feel more like a family/sibling atmosphere. We have been very impressed with the range of activities the children are encouraged to take part in. It is a gentle, reflective space where children learn through play, build self-regulation skills, resilience, and kindness towards others.
