Millom Stepping Stones is an all-year nursery established in 2008, providing a warm and nurturing environment for children aged 0-5 years. The setting places the needs of children at the heart of its provision, with staff dedicated to understanding each child's unique needs, interests, and characters.
They offer a reassuring hug if a child is unsettled and ensure emotional well-being is considered throughout the setting, including smooth transitions between rooms with key persons. Children are active learners, independently accessing resources and demonstrating they are settled and secure.
The nursery offers a wide range of learning opportunities, promoting independence through its curriculum, from babies using covered cups to pre-schoolers pouring their own drinks. Communication and language skills are strongly supported through running commentaries, new vocabulary, and questioning.
The curriculum is designed with clear intent for every child, ensuring learning is sequenced to build skills over time. Children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) receive extremely good support, with staff quickly identifying learning gaps and collaborating with professionals.
Healthy lifestyles are promoted with a diverse menu and activities exploring exercise and oral health. Children also develop an awareness of inclusion and diversity through local outings and visits to a care home.
