Milstead Pre-School, established in 2005, operates from Milstead Village Hall in Sittingbourne, Kent, offering childcare for children aged 2 to 4 years during term-time. Open Monday to Friday, from 9am to 3pm, the pre-school provides a nurturing environment where children feel safe and secure, as highlighted in their latest "Good" Ofsted report from June 2023.

Children are encouraged to develop independence, tidying up after mealtimes and preparing for outdoor play. Storytelling is a key focus, with children enjoying reading, looking at books, and acting out stories.

Staff support children in making informed choices in their play, such as selecting musical instruments or action songs. The pre-school makes effective use of its surrounding spaces for outdoor learning, offering a range of physical play experiences like running, investigating the cricket ground, and going for walks in the fields to visit cows.

The Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCo) works in close partnership with parents and other professionals to support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities, with the manager also supporting a staff member through SENCo training. This commitment ensures children are supported to reach their full potential, fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment.

What it's like

Staff provide children with a nurturing environment, where they feel safe and secure. The children are excited to come into pre-school and quickly settle into their play, for example, exploring the role-play area and using stethoscopes to look after dolls. They develop independence by tidying up after mealtimes and putting on high-visibility vests to play outside.
