Milton Park Pre-School, established in 1982, is a registered charity and committee-operated early years provision located in the Milton area of Portsmouth. Situated within Milton Park Primary School, the pre-school caters to children aged 2 to 4 from the local community.
It boasts a dedicated large classroom, with additional access to the school hall and playground, alongside its own private outdoor space and entrance. The pre-school operates during term time, for 38 weeks annually, from September to July.
It warmly welcomes children from diverse backgrounds, providing tailored support for those with special educational needs and those learning English as an additional language. The setting is committed to fostering a secure, happy, and stimulating learning environment where every child feels valued.
Recognising parents as primary educators, the pre-school values their insights and opinions, believing that children thrive through play-based learning that builds upon their existing experiences.
Our ethos
We aim to provide a secure, happy and stimulating environment, where all are valued and welcome, regardless of race, culture or religion. We will provide a wide and varied range of activities and experiences for all children, which will be offered not imposed upon them. We acknowledge that parents are the child’s first educators and value their knowledge, views and opinions. We believe that children learn best through play, and by establishing a starting point, and building upon their own experiences. Together, we can nurture the foundations for your child’s future learning.

Inclusion & environment
Staff identify children who may have special educational needs and/or disabilities. They are quick to intervene and support children, if needed. For example, they work with families and make relevant referrals. These children also benefit from individual support plans that develop their learning further.
Children confidently explore the activities provided, both inside and outside. Children freely access the inside and outside provisions, where all seven areas of learning are available. Staff join in with their play to extend their learning further.
Staff also support children with English as an additional language. They use a range of techniques, such as visual aids, visual timetables, signing and working with families to use their home language. This supports children to access all aspects of this inclusive environment.
