About this day nursery
Tops Southsea, registered in 2020, provides childcare for children aged 0-4 years old. 30am to 6pm, with the exception of bank holidays.
Children enjoy their time at the setting and develop secure relationships with their key person. Staff help children develop the skills they need to navigate and form friendships, while learning about emotions.
This is supported by reading books about feelings and sharing experiences. Staff also provide regular opportunities to develop children’s language and communication skills, adapting their language to suit the age and stage of each child.
The curriculum is well-sequenced and focuses on what children need to learn next. This is reflected in the progress children make, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and those who speak English as an additional language.
Children develop a love of books, which staff use to introduce new information and vocabulary. Staff also introduce new concepts such as mathematics and provide activities that teach children about the world around them, including different cultures and customs.
Children are encouraged to take pride in their environment and learn to respect it. Opportunities for outdoor learning allow older children to strengthen their core muscles, balance, and coordination through regular yoga sessions.
Partnership working is effective, with staff collaborating closely with parents and other professionals to ensure a consistent approach to children's learning and welfare. The latest Ofsted inspection, on 6th August 2024, rated Tops Southsea as 'Good'.

My child has been going here since he was one year old and has had a great experience. I feel like the staff who have taken care of him at nursery and then preschool have done so with a lot of love. I get a report of how and what he’s been doing each day and generally photos as well. He is happy to go in, happy when he leaves, talks fondly of the staff, eats well, and has done well making friends and hitting his developmental milestones.

Southsea Tops Day Nursery has been amazing for my children Bella and Emma. The staff are so supportive and always ready to help. Most importantly, the girls are happy and love going every day. Highly recommend!

Amazing staff ! My son loved this Nursery. My son has 3 different languages going on. And staff tried there best to make him comfortable so he fits right in. And now he is ready for School. And he is so excited to go in to nursery and always happy talking about it so i can tell how much he loves staff and everything about it. I recommend as a mum to join this amazing Nursery. And you will not regret.

Since my son has been in tops nursery, he has Progressed so much! He is such a confident, happy talkative little Boy! any concerns I have had with the nursery, I have been able to speak confidently to them about it. my son looks forward to attending nursery every time. he Loves the staff and gets on well with them. It’s also walking distance from my House too, winner! Thank you for everything you do.
