What it's like to attend

Staff in the pre-school provide a safe and stimulating environment. They work hard to get to know and understand the children in their care through settling-in visits and stay-and-play sessions. Staff observe and monitor children's progress to plan activities based on their interests and next steps for development, and they promote positive behaviour through consistent rules and boundaries.

Inspector highlights

  • Staff promote children's sense of self-identity by encouraging them to learn and understand things about themselves, such as through drawing self-portraits and comparing handprints and footprints to discuss similarities and differences.
  • Children are encouraged to be independent through activities like serving snacks, washing hands, and arranging their work, which helps their personal development.
  • Children's progress is closely monitored, and development concerns are quickly identified. Staff use this information to plan appropriate next steps and provide intense support for children with additional needs.
  • Staff engage well with children and promote conversation skills by talking about their feelings and ideas and building on their knowledge and understanding of concepts and words.
  • Parents are very happy with the pre-school, its education, and the care provided. They are informed about their children's individual learning targets and can contribute to them outside of pre-school hours.

Areas to develop

  • 1provide even more opportunities for children to extend and enhance their range of vocabulary
  • 2encourage children's access to books in order to further promote children's love of reading.
