About this day nursery

Partou Cherry Trees Day Nursery & Pre-School, established in 2012, is a childcare setting located on the Slough Trading Estate in Berkshire, catering to children aged 0-4 years. The nursery operates year-round from 7:45 am to 6:15 pm, 51 weeks a year.

While the latest Ofsted inspection in August 2025 rated the overall effectiveness as "Requires Improvement" with variable teaching quality, the report highlights that children are happy and form warm, trusting relationships with staff through a secure key-person system. The environment is consistently clean and well-maintained.

The nursery embraces outdoor learning, with pre-school children developing gross motor skills, older toddlers encouraged to take manageable risks, and younger children engaging in sensory activities. It provides funded hours for two, three, and four-year-olds and receives early years pupil premium funding.

Parents commend the nursery for the care, education, and support provided, along with effective verbal and written communication.

Actions the provider must take

  • take necessary steps to prevent the spread of infection and ensure children's health is not compromised
  • improve and strengthen the implementation of the curriculum and tailor teaching more precisely to children's age and stage of development to extend their knowledge and skills further

What it's like to attend

Children are happy, the key-person system is secure, and children have warm trusting relationships with staff. They play in a clean and well-maintained environment. However, the quality of teaching is variable, and children sometimes do not make the progress they are capable of due to inconsistencies in staff practices and breaches of statutory requirements.

Inspector highlights

  • Children are happy, the key-person system is secure and children have warm trusting relationships with staff.
  • Children play in a clean and well-maintained environment.
  • Older children behave well and are learning to resolve conflict between others successfully.
  • When teaching is of a better quality, staff encourage children’s interests well.
  • Children show that they feel safe at the nursery.
  • Staff gather a good range of information from parents when children first start with them, this helps to support a smooth transition.

Areas to develop

  • 1The quality of education is variable across the nursery. While some staff deliver effective teaching that supports children's engagement and progress, others do not consistently promote purposeful learning. As a result, children are not sufficiently challenged or supported to build on what they already know and can do.
  • 2Lunchtime routines are not always well organised, resulting in children waiting at the table for extended periods of time for their meals, which impacts on the time children have to engage in purposeful play.
  • 3Staff do not always maintain health and hygiene practices consistently in daily routines. For instance, children and staff do not always wash their hands before serving and eating after outdoor play, and younger children are observed sharing foods that they have started to consume. This does not effectively promote children's good health and potentially increases the spread of infection.
  • 4Management has some monitoring systems in place, such as supervision and team meetings. However, these approaches are not sufficiently robust to identify weaknesses in teaching to raise the quality of care and education to a good level.

Outdoor space

Children like to play outdoors, where pre-school children develop gross motor skills through climbing, balancing and exploring spatial awareness. Younger children, including babies, engage in sensory activities, like water, sand and paint, which supports their movement and handling skills.

Terrible experience from the start. We enrolled our 2.5-year-old, only to be told on day one that funding was cut and we’d be expected to pay. We asked for the cost and kept chasing them, but they ignored us. No response, no follow-up, no professionalism, There are much better options nearby, and the lack of communication here is shocking. Honestly, it feels like a place that shouldn’t be allowed to operate the way it does.

My daughter has been attending this nursery since she was one year old, and it's been a fantastic experience. The staff is incredibly caring and attentive. Nursery Manager Ravneet is exceptionally helpful and friendly. All the Care Givers in every room are kind and gentle with the children. The nursery has helped my daughter develop confidence and social skills. I couldn't be happier with the care she receives here.

I was very worried at the beginning since my child was only 11 months old when she started attending the Cherry Tree Nursery. It was very important for me to know she was safe and looked after. I have no worries now, as my little one is so happy to go to nursery. She eats well while at nursery, she has developed skills which I would not have probably had the time to practise with her too much and made many friends. Thank you for everything you do!

As a college lecturer and a former SENCo, my background and education in this field have made me particularly selective about my daughter’s education. After an extensive search and having experienced other nurseries, we finally chose Cherry Trees Nursery for Léa—and I couldn’t be happier with our decision. I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for the outstanding care, professionalism, and warmth your team provides. Lea is very attached to her father and me, and settling her into a nursery was a challenging process. Your teachers have shown such extraordinary love and care that they’ve made Lea feel welcomed and cherished. She has stopped crying all day, which felt impossible before. Given that she stays until 5:30 pm most days, it is a huge comfort to know that she is in such capable and caring hands. Thank you so much for everything your team does for our family and for all the children at Cherry Trees Nursery. I am forever grateful for your outstanding work and for creating such a nurturing environment for Lea.

I recently visited this place for the registration of my 2-year-old daughter to make sure it is a suitable place for her and I was very pleasantly impressed. There are many playrooms divided according to the age of the children, for each group there are at least 2 supervisors. The place is very welcoming, clean, well-kept, but what I really like is that, from what I was told by the manager of this nursery various activities are held for the children's entertainment (music, dance). The staff is made up of super young, quiet, calm, lovely, beautiful ladies who like small children. I like this place and I highly recommend it.
