About this day nursery

Penny Poppins Nursery, situated in Rose House on Barnes High Street, is an independent early learning centre registered with Ofsted. It caters to children aged 20 months to 4 years, offering a nurturing and secure environment over 38 weeks a year, aligning with local primary school term dates.

The nursery provides flexible 3, 4, and 6-hour sessions, with additional clubs and classes available during school holidays. The founders, Kerry and Nikki, bring over two decades of experience working with children in the Barnes area, holding childcare qualifications, enhanced DBS checks, and paediatric first aid training.

Penny Poppins aims to deliver the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, focusing on a 'home from home' atmosphere where children can learn, develop, and flourish at their own pace. The nursery champions learning through play, offering diverse activities such as sand and water play, creative expression, home corner activities, a maths area, a book corner, and small-world toys.

A secure outdoor space is also available for free-flow play. The curriculum incorporates music, dancing, ball skills, cooking, and regular community outings.

Each child is assigned a key person to ensure individualised care, foster familiarisation, and build strong relationships with parents and guardians. The nursery monitors progress through online learning journals and conducts parent-teacher meetings bi-annually, providing comprehensive written reports before children transition to their next educational stage.

The ethos emphasises positive relationships, enabling environments, and recognising each child as a unique individual.

Penny Poppins was a very positive experience for my son. Nikki and Kerry are so warm with the children making it a lovely environment. We have done the messy play group and the nursery sessions. My son thrived in the nursery sessions- helped by the group size, the variety of activities and themes, and he made happy friendships too. He was nurtured and developed a lot in Nikki and Kerry’s care. I would highly recommended Penny Poppins to other families.
