About this day nursery

Pink Hippo Day Nursery & Pre-school Ltd, established in January 2009, operates from a purpose-built facility that opened its doors in April 2011. Owner/managers Sue and Debby meticulously designed the setting to ensure a high-quality environment tailored to children's needs, fostering their learning and development.

The nursery is registered with Ofsted (URN: EY489868) and adheres to the EYFS Statutory Framework, with its most recent inspection occurring in May 2023. Pink Hippo is dedicated to helping children learn and grow at their own pace, within a happy and secure environment, through play.

They aim to establish a strong foundation for future learning and development by collaborating with parents to create an inclusive atmosphere where every child is valued and encouraged to reach their full potential. The nursery features a spacious pre-school area, a separate section for under 2s with a dedicated sleep room, and a sensory room equipped with interactive facilities for all children.

Outdoor amenities include a generous decked area and a large enclosed grassed area, both designed to facilitate a wide range of learning opportunities in the fresh air.

Pricing & funding

Charges are based on an hourly rate around block sessions, with reduced rates for full days (8am-6pm). The nursery offers flexible booking options but requires a minimum booking of two seven-hour sessions per week. Fees are payable monthly in advance.

What it's like to attend

Inspector highlights

  • Staff are incredibly positive and show children how much they value them. All staff consistently use praise and encouragement and give children opportunities to express their ideas and make choices for themselves.
  • Managers are extremely reflective and have high expectations of staff and children. There is a strong focus on staff's professional development.
  • Staff know children exceptionally well and use this knowledge alongside their effective assessment procedures to identify any gaps in children's leaning. These gaps are quickly addressed as staff thoughtfully adapt their teaching and provide additional or different resources.
  • Relationships and support for parents are excellent. Staff go above and beyond to work with families to gain an insight into children's lives.
  • Children benefit from an extensive range of opportunities to learn about their local community.

How they support every child

SEND provision

Support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities is superb. The special educational needs coordinator uses her extensive knowledge to support all staff to work closely with parents and professionals to ensure children make timely progress. Staff demonstrate a strong ethos of enabling all children to blossom and achieve their full potential.

Outdoor space

Staff sensitively support children to take risks in their play. Children confidently climb, ride bicycles, push prams and investigate the exciting objects hidden in the sand and in the water tray.
