About this early years setting

Playmates Pre-school is a term-time setting in Thatcham, West Berkshire, for children aged two to four. It operates on weekdays from 9am to 3pm and accepts government funding for eligible two, three and four-year-olds, as well as tax-free childcare. The pre-school provides an inclusive environment for all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND).

In May 2023, Ofsted rated the pre-school 'Good'. The inspection report noted that children confidently enter the setting, settle quickly, and play well together. Staff were observed to have high expectations for behaviour and to focus on developing speech and language through play. Children enjoy daily physical activity in a large outdoor space which has resources such as ride-on cars, a slide and a hill. Parents find the staff welcoming and approachable and feel they receive regular feedback on their children's progress.

They aim to instil a lifelong desire to learn by providing a safe, developmentally appropriate, and stimulating environment that promotes children's social, emotional, physical, and cognitive growth.

What it's like

Children confidently enter the pre-school and are quick to settle. Staff successfully put strategies into place to help those children who find it harder to separate from parents. Children happily engage in play and are safe and secure. They make friends and play well together.

Pricing & funding

Fees are charged per session for self-funded families. Sessions are offered in three-hour blocks.
