Scallywags (Medway) Limited, established in 2013 and located in Rainham, Kent, offers childcare from 7:30 am to 6:30 pm all year round. The nursery is registered for 104 places and currently has 190 children on roll, aged 0 to 4 years.

The setting provides a wonderfully stimulating and nurturing environment where children flourish, forming strong attachments with the empathetic, warm, and kind staff. Laughter and happy voices fill the day as staff create a joyful, home-from-home atmosphere.

" The nursery benefits from an inspirational leadership team and 48 dedicated staff members, 26 of whom are highly qualified, including managers at Level 3 and 5. This ensures a strong level of professional skills and knowledge, supported by an outstanding training and mentoring programme.

Children develop a strong sense of self, understanding the needs of others, and demonstrating exemplary behaviour, all contributing to their self-control and resilience. Staff lead by example, promoting positive attitudes and understanding children's emotions.

Babies are quickly soothed, preventing distress, and children learn respect and value for one another, integrating diverse cultures, languages, and festivals into daily nursery life, fostering them as enthusiastic lifelong learners. Scallywags (Medway) Limited was rated Outstanding in all areas by Ofsted on its latest inspection on 7th June 2022.

How they support every child

SEND provision

Additional funding is used exceptionally well to further support children's speaking and communication skills, including those children with special educational needs and/or disabilities. A speech therapist regularly works with staff and children to provide specific interventions and activities.

EAL / language support

Children learn to respect and value one another. Their cultures, languages and festivals become an integral part of nursery life. Parents borrow books to take home to read to their children, including some written in their home languages.

My grandson goes here, it's a fantastic nursery. All the staff are qualified and lovely, they really take great care of my grandson, are supportive through any childhood issues, are all very approachable and easy to talk to. They take time every day to go through his day with my daughter, discuss how his day has been and, if there have been any issues, give advice, support and discuss how best to help him deal with them. My grandson is doing extremely well here and we are completely confident that he is being cared for so very very well by these lovely people when he is there. Nothing is too much trouble for them ! It's a fantastic place.

I highly recommend Scallywags. Being an anxious parent I was really worried about sending my son to nursery but Scallywags is just something else. It feels so homely, the staff are all so friendly, caring & loving toward the children and it genuinely feels like home from home. The activities the children do are fantastic! Lots of variety and focusing on their areas of development. The food served both in terms of quality, variety and amount is very impressive and makes me wish I went! Having the app to see updates on my sons day is just another reassurance for myself and I’m already seeing progress in his development from being at the nursery. Couldn’t fault a thing! Thanks so much scallywags team, you’re the best 🩵

What a fantastic nursery! I can not fault them at all, all the staff are lovely and so attentive and caring to all the children . My daughter started when she was 9 months old and was there until she started school and she progressed amazingly with them. My son now goes there and loves it. I know when he is there that he is safe and well cared for. They always have such a wide variety of activities and so lovely events throughout the year for the family to enjoy ( mother and father day tea , grandparents tea etc )... this really is the best nursery around ! Thank you Scallywags for everything you do

My Daughter has been going here since 9 months old and absolutely loves it! It's a 'home from home' environment and all the staff are very friendly and caring. The variety of activities, learning and fun the children have here is just amazing. With daily updates and great communication, I never have to worry. The onsite chef and cooking is also a great bonus and she (my Daughter) now eats like a champ thanks to the variety of fresh meals provided throughout the week. I honestly do believe my not so little girl is confident and happy because of their support, commitment and love to each of the children. I 100% recommend this nursery. Thank you to all Scallyway staff for being the best x

We secured our daughters place around 9 months in advance as it's important to do so when a nursery has a positive high reputation and top offsted rating. Since she's been there it's been amazing, she loves it, she loves the staff, and she's happy to go (which is the most important thing). Can't fault the team.
