The day nursery was inspected by Ofsted in July 2021 and received an overall rating of 'Good'. The inspector noted that children are excited to arrive and settle quickly. They learn to make positive relationships and are kind to their friends, sharing and taking turns.

There are opportunities for children to be physical and explore the outdoors, which includes water play, a 'fairy garden', and visits to local wooded areas. Ofsted found the support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities to be very effective, with gradual settling-in sessions and pre-start pictures offered. To improve, the inspector recommended that staff strengthen their understanding of how to hold the interest of younger children during some planned activities.

  • Children settle very quickly, even though, due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus) pandemic, parents drop them off at the door instead of entering the building. Children are greeted with genuinely beaming smiles and a cheery welcome from all staff.

  • Children have plenty of opportunities to be physical.
  • The manager and staff support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) very effectively.

How they support every child

SEND provision

The manager and staff provide very effective support for children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). Before children start, parents receive pictures of staff and activities. Children with SEND are invited to attend short, gradually increasing sessions to help them become familiar with the environment and staff.

Outdoor space

The manager identified that children needed more outdoor opportunities and introduced resources such as water play and a 'fairy garden' to enhance their engagement outdoors. Children also visit local community areas like wooded areas to explore leaves, plants, and observe wildlife.

Cannot thank Katie, Samii and Charlie enough for how wonderful they've been with my daughters Kimmy and Violet while they were at Smartie Pants. The Time has come for us to move on but we'll really miss coming here! Thank you for looking after us so well :-)
