Stobhillgate Explorers

About this day nursery

Stobhillgate Explorers, based at Stobhillgate First School in Morpeth, provides an early years experience for children aged 0 to 4 years. The day nursery operates 50 weeks a year, from 7:30 am to 5:30 pm, offering comprehensive wraparound care.

Their unique approach centres on a Forest School Nursery concept, encouraging children to learn and play in natural environments for most of the day, regardless of weather, with indoor spaces available for adverse conditions. The programme is led by qualified teachers and specialist Early Years staff, ensuring adherence to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum while fostering child-led learning based on individual interests.

The setting prioritises early intervention for children with specific and additional needs, with support from their SENCo. The day nursery emphasises strong communication with parents, creating a supportive community around families, and promotes an ethos of environmental care through reusing and recycling.

Their pedagogical influences include attachment theory, the Highscope approach, and the Forest School approach, all designed to support healthy physical and mental development.

Our ethos

On joining us your children will learn to love the world around them with our unique 0-4 Forest School Nursery, where they will spend time learning and playing in the natural world for as much of their day as possible, whatever the weather. We do have indoor spaces available for each of our groups of children which they may access in bad weather, nevertheless, the ethos and how we teach, from the children’s interests, remains the same. Our focus is on each child being empowered to lead their own learning.
