About this day nursery

Sunflower Montessori Nursery, located in Frome, BA11 1DS, offers a nurturing environment for children from 3 months to 5 years. The nursery is conveniently situated in the heart of Frome, within walking distance of Cork Street Car Park and major bus routes on Bath Street or Market Place, making it easily accessible.

Parents can schedule appointments to tour the facility. The nursery is dedicated to fostering creativity and exploration within its distinct age-group spaces: "Sunshine" for infants aged 3 months to 2 years, focusing on foundational development; "Seedlings" for toddlers aged 2 to 3 years, providing a stimulating space for skill development; and "Sunflower" for children aged 3 to 5 years, encouraging independence through play.

The highly qualified team values childhood as a unique and precious time, allowing children to learn at their own pace and explore their interests, promoting self-discipline and individuality. The Montessori approach, central to their philosophy, focuses on providing carefully designed materials that enable children to learn naturally and joyfully, rather than through traditional teaching methods.

This method encourages children to take ownership of their learning and actively participate in their environment, fostering a love for learning without competitive pressure.

Our ethos

When dealing with young children it is essential to recognise that the prime motivation for children’s early learning is their own joy in life and the pleasure they gain from the experiences offered to them. Also, that childhood is not merely a means of preparing children for future stages of their lives, but it is a unique and precious time to be experienced and valued for itself. We understand that childhood is a unique and special time in our lives, and we actively seek to encourage children in our care to develop their interests and intrigues. The Montessori method of education aims to encourage young children to carry on their learning process in the same way they have done since birth, not by teaching them in the formerly understood sense of imparting knowledge, but by providing them with apparatus and carefully thought out materials for them to learn at their own pace.

My son joined sunflower when he was 2. He has recently left for school and we have been so pleased with the level of care we've received from the nursery. The staff are all wonderful, they have low turnover so all the staff really know the children well, know what they like and dislike and are genuinely interested in their development.

My daughter started half way through the preschool year and she loves it so much! They made the transition so easy for her and made us all feel very welcome from the first day. We love how much they get involved with the local town, visiting the library, litter picking, using the local parks, visiting a local care home. My 11 month old is starting next week and I know she is going to be so well looked after.

My little one started at Sunflower Nursery in September 2022 after he turned 2, he is currently non-verbal and has development delays, the staff at the nursery have been so supportive with helping him and he has improved so much since starting, I love to see the activities he joins in with and the art work he brings home. He now loves to go to nursery and always appears so happy when I pick him up. The staff are very friendly and easy to talk too and always have a smile on their faces. ❤️

My son and daughter have both loved their preschool years at Sunflowers, growing in confidence and being stimulated with fun, creative, varied activities. Fantastic, nurturing staff who go above and beyond. We’ve had great support from initial settling in, to toilet training, and right through to school readiness. We love seeing what they get up to on Tapestry. Happy parents and happy kids! Very highly recommended.
