About this day nursery

Tandridge Village Pre-School, established in 1989, provides a nurturing and engaging environment for children aged 2 to 5 years. Located in a spacious village hall with extensive outdoor areas, the pre-school is well-regarded in the Oxted community for its ability to help children settle in seamlessly.

The curriculum is child-centric, drawing inspiration from Froebel and Reggio Emilia philosophies, where learning is led by children's interests and natural curiosity. This approach encourages hands-on exploration and a variety of self-expression methods, such as drawing, dancing, role-play, and music.

While focused on child-initiated learning, the pre-school also incorporates adult-led activities to meet statutory EYFS framework requirements and foster essential skills like concentration, vocabulary, and teamwork. The daily routine balances structured times like circle time, snack, and lunch with ample outdoor play, preparing children for school while promoting a love for the outdoors, even in inclement weather.

The pre-school benefits from the expertise of a Primary School teacher as its manager, who is dedicated to providing children with an excellent foundation for their educational journey. Older children also have the opportunity to participate in a Forest School program, which offers hands-on learning experiences in a woodland setting.

Tandridge Village Pre-School is rated "Good" by Ofsted.

Inclusion & environment

How they support every child

SEND provision

Staff support children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) well. They work with parents and other professionals to share information and provide targeted support to help children with SEND make the best possible progress. Any additional funding the pre-school receives is used to support children's individual needs, such as purchasing additional resources or extra staffing to allow even more focused support.

Outdoor space

Children enjoy lots of time outdoors to support their physical skills, core strength and well-being. They have regular access to outdoor play spaces and the oldest children also head off to the nearby woods for weekly forest school sessions.

We are thrilled we found TVPS. Our son has settled brilliantly there, the environment is calm and nurturing. The staff are fantastic, you forget they have key workers because all of the staff seem to know all of the children equally well and invest energy in getting to know them as individuals. A lot of effort is put in to offering a wide and varied range of activities and experiences, including their forest school. On the admin side things are well organised and communicated. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it to other local families and will be very sad when our son’s time there comes to an end.

TVPS is the most wonderful nursery. My son has attended for the last few years and my youngest son starts in September. The teachers are incredible, caring and there is little to no staff turnover. They take the time to get to know your child and work with you to bring out the best in them. They always have amazing extra curricular activities - animal visits, musical visitors, french lessons, parties, science experiments etc the forest school is excellent and they are outside loads as they have two other outdoor areas they can use. There are so many activities set up every day that the children are free to explore all of their interests. Highly recommend the nursery.

I highly recommend this Pre school! My daughter loves it! The staff are brilliant, planning such great Early Years activities for the children to learn and explore. They also have weekly Forest School sessions, with two qualified Forest School Teachers, which is just fantastic for the children’s learning. In addition to all this they also have French lessons and Yoga! It’s a lovely community Pre school. Thank you so much for everything you do for all the children at TVPS.

My daughter attended TVPS for two years and had a wonderful time. The staff there were fantastic, very caring and attentive. All children get to spend loads of time outdoors with access straight into the local countryside for exploring as well as a Forest School setting for older children. Thanks to the Pre School my daughter was ready to make the transition to school in September. She still speaks fondly of her time spent and friends made there. I Highly Recommend it.
