Tarka Tots Nursery, located in the Sure Start Children's Centre in Victoria Park, Bideford, was established in 2005 and offers full-day childcare for children aged 0 to 8 years. The nursery operates all year round, from 8am to 6pm, and currently enrols 38 children.

The experienced team of nine staff members, six of whom hold qualifications at Level 3 or above, are highly praised for their excellent role modelling, showing respect and kindness that children mirror in their interactions. The nursery places a strong emphasis on language development, with staff supporting children to extend their vocabulary and articulate words correctly, fostering a solid foundation for future education.

Additionally, the baby room is highlighted for its particularly high-quality care, where children develop strong bonds with sensitive staff and learn independence from an early age, including using two-word sentences like 'wash hands' and 'all gone'. The setting also effectively prepares older children for school by promoting independence in self-care tasks like toileting and putting on shoes.

They also encourage personal development, teaching children how to resolve disputes and share, which is evident in children lining up and taking turns with play equipment in the outdoor area. The manager ensures a balanced curriculum with a focus on communication skills, and robust safeguarding arrangements ensure children's interests are prioritised.

What it's like

Children arrive happily and demonstrate that they feel safe, settled and secure. Staff are excellent role models. They show respect and kindness for others, which children mirror in their own interactions. Staff have high expectations of children, instilling a love of learning which prepares them for the next stage in their education, including school.
