About this day nursery

Little Learners Childcare is an early years provision located in Bideford, offering a unique and stimulating environment for babies, toddlers, and preschoolers. Founded by a qualified teacher, the nursery focuses on a play-based approach to learning, specifically designed to develop pre-writing motor skills, alongside physical and social development, all in alignment with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) guidance.

The curriculum incorporates a distinctive writing programme where children explore a new mark each week, aiding in the formation of letters, numbers, shapes, and patterns. Each engaging one-hour session provides opportunities for messy play, painting, play dough activities, sand exploration, scribbling, movement, and dance within a secure and enjoyable setting.

The aim is to prepare children for their transition to nursery and reception education. Beyond daily sessions, Little Learners also provides birthday party services, where they set up a tailor-made class at a chosen venue and manage all the clean-up.

The setting encourages parental involvement by offering insights into how to continue the learning journey at home.

How they support every child

SEND provision

Staff work closely with leaders to ensure that children with additional needs have the support they need. Parents appreciate the steps staff take to support all children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND). The special educational needs coordinator spoke to the inspector about how they support children with SEND.

Outdoor space

Staff support children to take managed risks. For example, they teach them when they might be at risk of harm and how to keep themselves safe. For instance, they help children to decide if they are playing too close to a wall in the outdoor area.
