About this day nursery

Willand Pre-School offers a play-based learning environment where children are encouraged to explore their interests at their own pace. The nursery provides a wide range of toys, resources, and activities, both indoors and outdoors, covering all areas of the Early Years Foundation Stage.

They utilise an online learning journal system called Tapestry to record children's progress, allowing parents to view photos, observations, and comments, as well as contribute their own. Established in 1965, the pre-school moved to its current building in 2007.

They cater to children aged 2 to 11 years for after-school and breakfast clubs, and operate a holiday club during all holidays except Christmas. The pre-school itself is registered for children aged 2 and up for 38 weeks of the year, working closely with the local primary school to prepare children for their transition to school.

They aim to provide a nurturing, friendly, and joyful atmosphere for children to play, learn, and socialise.

How they support every child

SEND provision

All children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), make excellent progress. When children need additional support, staff work in partnership with other agencies to meet their needs. Staff understand that the COVID-19 pandemic has resulted in many children experiencing speech and language delays and use highly successful strategies, such as signing, to help develop children's communication skills.

Outdoor space

Children have ample opportunities to develop their physical skills, both inside and in the well-equipped garden. For instance, children eagerly find their own shoes and sun hats and learn to put them on before going into the garden.
