The Little Firefly Forest School provides distinctive, high-quality childcare for children aged 2 to 5 years. This outdoor day nursery, registered with Ofsted, operates from picturesque locations in Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire countryside.
Its core philosophy revolves around utilising nature and nurturing experiences to foster happy and healthy development in children. The curriculum integrates the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework with extensive free play and exploration in natural outdoor settings.
The Forest School approach, inspired by practices in countries like Denmark and Norway, emphasises child-centred play, allowing children to engage in activities such as woodland crafts, creating mini-beast hotels, tree climbing, and open-fire cooking. Experienced Forest School leaders facilitate learning and guide children through safe risk-taking, ensuring activities like cooking and climbing are thoroughly risk-assessed and managed.
This focus on nature and hands-on exploration aims to enrich play experiences and maximise developmental opportunities for each child, all while adhering to the EYFS curriculum.

Inclusion & environment
Children build on and develop excellent physical skills as they use their bodies to climb, assessing risk and talking about how to get to the top and down again safely. They are consistently engaged in activities and demonstrate awe and wonder at the endless possibilities of discovery in the forest.
My son goes to the Kingston Blount site. It is wonderful. The staff are kind and friendly. They support the kids to have autonomy and gain confidence doing so. I was nervous at first to send my son to an outdoor Nursery and face the elements, as he had been at a conventional indoor Nursery since he was eight months old, he is now 3. But he’s become more adventurous and confident in his own skin. He’s more creative and much calmer when he gets home. He runs in through the gate and doesn’t look back, he is happy here. They update me every day through the tapestry app with photos and descriptions of what they’ve been doing that day ♥️ Thank you firefly forest school.
Read on GoogleAbsolutely love this nursery for my girls. It is like a second home for us and our kids. I was so sad when my two girls left when they became school age but now my youngest goes. The staff are very caring and build the best relationship with the kids.
Read on GoogleAs a fellow childcarer I couldn’t be more comfortable leaving my child with anyone else. Georgie and her team are the most nurturing and caring you could ask for and the experiences the children receive at their setting are so wonderful. I feel incredibly lucky to have got a place for my son at Fireflies
Read on GoogleA brilliant nursery that truly follows forest school ethos. My son absolutely adores it here! The staff are very attentive and caring. I feel content that when I am at work my son is in good hands❤️❤️
