The Milky Way Day Nursery, established in 2004, operates from a converted three-story house in Leicester, catering to children aged 0-5 years. Registered with OFSTED, the nursery provides a stimulating and welcoming environment that prioritises each child's individual needs and home life.

Learning and development are fostered through play, with activities tailored to children's interests. The nursery collaborates with external professionals and agencies, including the SEND support service, to ensure a consistent approach to child well-being, and actively encourages parental involvement in their children's learning journey.

The facility comprises distinct areas: the 'Rocket Room' for under 2s, featuring a free-flow baby garden and sensory room; the 'Stars Floor' with three spacious preschool rooms for role play, reading, and messy activities, along with access to technology and extracurriculars like languages and yoga; and a large garden divided into exciting zones such as a mud kitchen, digging areas, and a cultivation patch for growing produce. The nursery provides nutritious, homemade meals prepared onsite by their chef, accommodating various dietary requirements and holding a 5-star food hygiene rating.

The curriculum aligns with The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), guiding children's development through prime and specific learning areas. A key person system ensures personalised care and strong parent-nursery partnerships, with parents having access to online learning journals and regular parent evenings to discuss progress and next steps.

Our ethos

At the Milky Way Day Nursery, we endeavour to provide a warm, stimulating, homely environment, which takes its initial focus from the child’s own home life and individuality. The learning and development is focused on the child’s interests and extended through play. The setting enables children to socialise and learn through play from an early age. We work closely with all external professionals and agencies to provide a consistent approach which benefits the child and family. We have built good relationships with the SEND support service and are recommended regularly for the placement of children with additional needs. Where possible we will encourage parents and carers to be involved in children’s learning and development. We provide them with ample information about their child’s care and education. The nursery uses local facilities and have built up good bonds with the local community and schools, helping your children to transition to school. This ensures a robust transition for children leaving for school.

Staff create a warm and inclusive environment, where all children and families feel welcome and respected. Staff respond sensitively to children's differing needs, helping them to feel safe and secure enough to explore freely. This allows all children, including those with SEND and those who speak English as an additional language, to thrive and make progress.
